Presentation

Sanjida Amin is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto. She specializes in the study of peace and conflict, with a focus on the civil wars in Sudan and South Sudan. Her doctoral research focuses on the impact of interstate rivalry on civil war processes, such as peace negotiations and the organizational structure of rebel groups. Sanjida has conducted fieldwork in several locations in East Africa, including Khartoum, Addis Ababa and Nairobi. Her research aims to illuminate successful peacebuilding practices in other East African countries and around the world.

Sanjida is a Trudeau Center for Peace, Conflict and Justice Fellow in 2022, as well as a recipient of the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships in 2020. She was also a recipient of the Canadian Graduate Scholarship Ontario in 2019. Before undertaking her doctorate, Sanjida earned a master's degree in political science at the University of Toronto and worked as a policy analyst for the provincial government.
