Brendon Novel is a doctoral candidate in political science at the University of Montreal, under the supervision of Mamoudou Gazibo. A 2018 graduate of Sciences Po Paris's Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), he focuses on foreign policy and development issues in the Horn of Africa and, more broadly, in the Red Sea region. His doctoral research specifically examines the local effects of development cooperation between Djibouti and Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is also treasurer and a member of the editorial board of Saha – ساحة, the University of Montreal's critical journal on the SWANA region. He also writes regularly for Afrique XXI, Orient XXI, Diplomatie, and La Conversation.
