Rémy Chhem is pursuing a doctorate at the School of International Development and Global Studies at the University of Ottawa. His thesis focuses on the policies of expanding protected areas for biodiversity conservation and their impact on land tenure security and the livelihoods of rural communities in Cambodia and Southeast Asia. More generally, he is a researcher in environmental social sciences and he specializes in the governance of natural resources and conservation, land tenure issues and participatory research. He has diverse professional experience at the intersection of environment and development, in development research organisations, universities and the public.
