Presentation
Julia Islas is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Montreal. Of Mexican origin, her research explores how gender- and sexuality-based dissidences create space in Mexico City, — with the lenchitudes movement as a central case. She pays particular attention to the care practices these communities develop, and to the specific forms of political subjectivation and citizenship they can give rise to.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the Sorbonne University (2020) and a Master's degree in Social Sciences, Cooperation and Development in Latin America — with a specialization in sociological research — from the Institut des Hautes Études de l’Amérique Latine (IHEAL – Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle, 2022).
