She is a specialist in gender inclusion in peace and security policies, with a PhD in political science from the Université libre de Bruxelles and a PhD in political theory from LUISS Guido Carli.

During her residency, Maria Martin de Almagro gave two conferences:

• A workshop as part of our conference cycle Faire de la recherche en terrain difficile dedicated to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Africa
• A conference alongside Ketty Nivyabandi and Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé entitled Defending women's rights against sexual violence in sub-Saharan Africa
