Canadian Centre for German and European Studies (CCGES)

CCGES is a joint initiative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the University of Montreal, and York University. It aims to provide higher education and further research, as well as national and international outreach. The Centre comprises about twenty humanities and social sciences professors.

Students may complete a research stay in Europe as part of the complementary Graduate Diploma in German and European Studies, which is offered by CCGES and leads to a doctoral or master’s degree.

Currently, research at the Centre is focusing on three areas:

  • the pertinence of Max Weber’s thought in today’s world;
  • the relations between the Balkans and the West;
  • the construction of memory and collective identities.

CCGES is an affiliated unit to CÉRIUM.
